We continue our #WhyAustin series with Indeed President, Chris Hyams.
Indeed launched in 2004 and is now the world’s #1 job site. With 12 years under their belt, they have built one of the strongest companies in the United States. And wouldn’t you know… it all started here. So when we asked Chris “Why Austin?” he knew just what to say.
“This is a place where you can grow and given the speed with which Austin is growing, we know that there will always be more people available,” Hyams said.
Indeed currently employs about 500 people in its downtown Austin office and plans to add almost 1,000 new jobs within the next few years at their new location. Indeed’s new building is 220,000 square feet of pure work and play and is located in the Champion Office Park in North Austin. We took a tour around to find multiple stories of enormous work space, snack bars, and a ground level with a huge game room, coffee bar (fully staffed), and an enormous cafeteria. (The cafeteria even had a tapas bar… A. Tapas. Bar.)
“Companies move to where the talent is, and we think that one of the main draws for talent is the quality of life in a city,” Hyams said. “Austin, really year around, is one of the best places to live in America.”
Austin is a mixture of small town pleasantries and big city fun. People are driven to our “Keep Austin Weird” lifestyle and so are the businesses that chase the best talent. We are a melting pot of tech nerds and creative weirdos who work and play in one of the greatest cities in the world.
