Despite what you read, Austin isn’t just free breakfast tacos, office ping pong tables and live music happy hours. We’re also a tech hub with tech trappings like horrible traffic and high rents, but if alleviating our city’s growing pains isn’t the mother of invention, we don’t know what is and with more innovators moving here every day, we’re bound to find the answers.
To help us start, we’ve partnered with The American Genius to create #WhyAustin, a special ongoing interview series featuring local thought leaders, business owners, creatives, entrepreneurs and anyone in between that honestly examines the challenges of our business and startup culture while showcasing some of the best and brightest companies our little big city has to offer.
We kicked things off with Gene Austin, CEO of Bazaarvoice, a homegrown Austin success story founded in 2005. Connecting brands, retailers and consumers in the world’s largest shopper network Bazaarvoice focuses on providing a fantastic quality of life for their employees while pursuing innovative solutions for their clients.
According to Gene Austin, our city is “fertile ground for emerging businesses” and Bazaarvoice thrives because of constant growth and the cultivation of happy employees. It’s this kind of forward thinking that has helped build the business and continues to contribute to the success of our city.
This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for a new story every month, produced by our team at StoryCraft, to discover more about what makes Austin a great place to work, play and grow.
